Roman Temple Context 2

View looking southwest at the very well–preserved Roman Temple (ca. second century AD).  It is located at the end of the "Harbor Street" and faces a portion of the harbor—the area in the lower right of the image.  It is of the “Corinthian Style,” but it did not have any colonnade surrounding it.

The rubble in front of the temple is the remains of a Seljuk Bath.  The walls leading to the temple from the upper right are from a later period.

The Temple stands on a platform measuring 42 x 52 ft. [13 x 16 m.].  In places, it is preserved to a height of 34 ft. [10.3 m..] and the intact doorway is 20 ft. [6.1 m..] high!!

It is not known to which deity the temple was dedicated.  It might have been built as an Imperial Cult Temple—a Sebasteion.
