View looking west at the forest of columns at the east end of the Temple of Artemis. The two on the left (south) side of the image are interesting because they are still standing since the time they were put in place in antiquity and have not been restored! They were never fluted.
This temple was built over centuries, and was never completed. It is estimated that only 20 columns were ever erected for this temple. In AD 1444, 12 were still standing, in 1750 only 6 columns, and now two!
