Hagia Sophia Mosque

Hagia Sophia Mosque

A view looking at the southeast corner of the interior of the "Hagia Sophia Church." Sultan Orhangazi turned the church into a mosque in 1331.

On the right side of the image notice the tall "niche" in the wall.  This is the mihrab that indicates the direction towards Mecca for Muslim prayers.

In modern times the church/mosque was turned into a "museum" but more recently restored as a mosque.
