Water Siphon General

Water Siphon General

View of a section of a "siphon" portion of the double aqueduct system that brought water from the south to Laodicea. This portion of the aqueduct was made up of individual blocks of stones which were hollowed out and then joined together in a "collar and sleeve" arrangement. The joints were seals using plaster and olive oil.

From here the water descended into the valley and then rose again into the site of Laodicea.
