Gladiator Relief

Gladiator Relief

View of a winged gladiator fighting a wild beast. Note the typical Roman shield, the short gladius sword (18 in. [0.5 m.] long), and the arm and chest coverings. Note too the stylized tree behind the gladiator. For a very similar relief found at Ephesus Click Here.

This relief was found in the theater — gladiator vs. animal fights took place in the rebuilt orchestra areas of Roman Theaters.
