Lion Harbor

View looking northeast at the silted in area of the old "Lion Harbor." The harbor area is somewhat defined by the standing water. To the left of the water is a modern embankment. The fields beyond it used to be the water of a bay that was connected to the Aegean Sea.

It is very possible that Paul’s ship landed here at the Lion Harbor.

The reason that this is called the "Lion Harbor" is because there were two stone lions, one on each side of the harbor, and a chain was strung between them so that in times of danger it could be raised to keep enemy ships out of the harbor.
