Altar of Temple of Domitian 2

Altar of Temple of Domitian 2

View of one end of the reconstructed altar that stood in front of the Temple of the Sebastoi.

The relief on this side panel depicts a tied up bull, standing below a garland with a bull's head, waiting to be sacrificed.  On the left is an incense altar.

The temple, built during the reign of Domitian, was dedicated to Vespasian (his father), Titus (his brother), and himself—and thus, the temple is more properly called the "Temple of the Flavian Sebastoi."  "Flavian" is their family name while "sebastoi" means the "revered ones.
