Lower Agora 1

Lower Agora 1

View looking down, northeast, on to the Lower Agora—#3 on the Plan of the Lower City.

In the center is a paved plaza and on the left (north) are the remains of the Nymphaeum of the Lower Agora—#5 on the plan.  Beyond the plaza, to the east, are the multistory remains of a major bathhouse—notice the now closed doorways.

This area evidently dates to the reign of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus (r. A.D. 193–211)
