Temple to the Emperors Rear

View looking Southwest at the rear of the temple.  This well–preserved temple was dedicated to the Roman Emperors.  It was probably built around AD 200 during the reign of Septimius Severus.

The entrance to the temple is on the opposite side of the image.  The completely preserved eastern wall (in the sunlight) is actually unfinished.  Note all the protrusions on each of the stones of the wall.  If the temple had been completed, these would have been chipped/smoothed off.  Compare the smoothed stones of the back (northern) wall of this temple.
