Theater Entrance

View looking to the left of the stage area at one of the vaulted entrances into the orchestra. The flat area above it was reserved for dignitaries and the door to the rear of that area led to a chamber that they could retire to.

To the left of the vaulted entrance (parados) is the beginning of the slightly–larger than semi–circular seating area.

This theater is one of the best preserved from the Roman world. The architect Zeno the son of Theodore built it during the reign of Marcus Aurelius (A.D. 161–180).
