Jumping Weight (Halter)

Jumping Weight (Halter)

This is one of two stone weights which were held in the hands of athletes executing the long jump.  The right side of the “halter,” where the carved handle was located, is broken off.  Halters were used to assist in increasing distance in the long jump.

Note the Greek inscription.
