Stadium

Image of the stadium — view looking west down its 165 yrd. [180 m.] length.  The starting area is visible in the lower left portion of the image.  The underground entrance (compare Nemea) is on the right (north) side of the image where white shining plastic is visible.

The stadium was built in the fifth or fourth century B.C.  In contrast to other stadiums of this era (Olympia, Nemea) it had stone seating—visible on the left (south) side of the image.  Although this was not one of the “Panhellenic Games”—contests were held here every four years—nine days after the Isthmian Games.
