Antinous

Antinous

A second century A.D. Parian marble statue of Antinous—the favorite companion of the Roman Emperor Hadrian (A.D. 117–138).  Antinous drowned in the Nile River and Hadrian had numerous statues of him made as he mourned his loss.

This Roman statue seems to be a conscious imitation of the "Doryphoros" style-but lacks some of the musculature detail of the latter.
