Bedouin Encampment

Bedouin Encampment

View looking down at the goat’s hair tents of a Bedouin camp located on the edge of the Wilderness of Judah near Bethlehem.

Note the five black goat’s hair tents.  On the upper left side of the image there is a stone building – all over the middle east the Bedouin are becoming more sedentary.  In the lower left portion of the image, in the white area, are three pens that are used by the Bedouin to stable their sheep and goats.

Also note that this encampment is near the bottom of a shallow valley on the lee side of the hills.  During the winter months this is their preferred area to camp – to protect them from the strong storms and winds that blow in from the Mediterranean.

Contrary to some popular opinion, the Bedouin do not move on a daily or weekly basis, but rather on a seasonal one (winter camp vs. summer encampments).
