View looking north into the Dung Gate. The Dung Gate is located on the southern wall of the Old City of Jerusalem. Note the pointed Ottoman arch above the gate. The gate was widened after 1948 during the Jordanian rule of the Old City of Jerusalem in order to enable motor vehicles to enter the Old City - during this time (1948-1967) the Zion and Jaffa Gates were closed. The horizontal lintel dates to the Jordanian remodeling of the gate.
The Jewish Quarter and Western Wall are located just inside the gate.
