View of the partial restoration of mural paintings of the fifth century AD mural in the Grotto of Conon in the lower level of the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth.

Note the floral design and the Greek Inscription.

Conon was martyred in Asia Minor during the reign of Decius and is said to have said "I am of Nazareth in Galilee, I am of the family of Christ to whom I offer a cut from the time of my ancestors" (JMO p. 424).

The best guide book to archaeological sites is Jerome Murphy-O'Connor's The Holyland: An Oxford Archaeological Guide, but be sure to have the 5th edition!!  Click Here to view purchase.  It is also available in Kindle Format.
