View looking southeast at the entrance—propylaea—to the acropolis of Athens.  This entrance is located on the west side of the acropolis.

On the far right side is the Temple of Athena Nike.  Below it to the left people are on the staircase that leads up to the top of the acropolis.  In the center of the image is the squarish monument to Agrippa, the son-in-law of, the Emperor Augustus (r. 27 B.C.–A.D. 14).  In the upper left is the Pinakotheke, the picture gallery of the propylaea where elite visitors were received.
