This image is of a reconstruction of a building from the Talmudic Period - under construction. The construction techniques of the period - gleaned from archaeological and literary sources - are represented. The building itself is made of shaped black basalt stones - common in the Golan and the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee.

Two levels are visible in the photo. Note in the back of the lower level the "interior windows" which allow air and light to communicate to an interior room. In the upper right quadrant of the photo a doorway in the second level is visible. Note the wooden scaffolding. A number of iron tools are scattered about the site. Buildings like this (although usually more modest) must have also been common at sites such as Capernaum, Korazin, and Bethsaida - places associated with the life of Jesus.
