This is part of the area where the Israelites settled while they were "sojourning" in Egypt—in the Land of Goshen. "Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number" (Gen 47:27 and 14 other times in the Bible).
