A view looking northeast at the back wall of the Roman Temple that was dedicated to the Roman Emperor Augustus (r. 27 BC to AD 14) and Livia his wife. It was built between 20-10 BC and rebuilt/rededicated during the reign of Claudius. (r. 37–41) to honor Livia, his grandmother. It was the center of the ancient city of Vienna. It served as a temple for the Imperial Cult.
At its base, it is 78 feet long and 47 feet wide.
For a time it served as a church, "the temple of Reason" (1792), a court, a museum, and a library.
