View looking down (south) on the eastern end of the Temple of Apollo. The entrance is on the left (east) side of the image — via the columns. The holes in the limestone (lower right for example) are places where metal clamps — robbed out — held the stones together.
It may have been in this area that the person who was inquiring of the oracle may have presented his request to the priest — on a lead tablet (some discovered!) — and where the answer was eventually delivered to him.
The room (adyton) for the Pythian Priestess was probably off to the right of the image — Click Here to view that area of the temple.
In the upper portion of the image the depths of the Pleistos Valley are visible.
