View of the foundations of the structure built by Queen Arsinoe II around 285 B.C. It is located just south of the Anaktoron and may have been used used for sacrifices or as a "welcoming center" for visiting dignitaries. The modern red tiles cover the straight walls of an earlier structure that was destroyed when the Arsinoeion was built. This was the largest covered round space in ancient Greece—65.5 ft. [20 m.] in diameter.
Arsinoe II was a Ptolemaic Greek princess who became Queen of Thrace, Macedonia, and Asia Minor through marriage.
