View looking northwest at the "Bema" that is located on the north side of the forum. The Bema is the structure composed of two rows of stones and is located in the upper half of the image.
Although it is often stated that this is the place where Paul and Silas appeared before the "magistrates"—this is not probable for the word bema is not used in this context. It is more probable that they appeared before the magistrates in the council house at the northwest corner of the forum
