View looking north at the V.I.P. seating area of the Theater of Dionysus. Just to the left of the red–coated woman is where the throne of the priest of Dionysus was located as was the podium reserved for the Roman Emperor.
Note the 3 ft. [1 m.] high wall that closes off the orchestra area. This wall was built by the Romans so as to confine the gladiatorial spectacles to the orchestra area — that is to protect the audience!
