View of a metal discus found at Nemea and probably used at the games there. The throwing of the discus was one of the five–part competition of the “pentathlon.”
The discus is about 8 in. [20 cm.] in diameter.
This discus is said to be made of iron and weighs 18 lbs. [8.5 kg.] – in contrast to the more normal stone or bronze discuses 5.5 lbs. [2.5 kg.]
