Two boxers are depicted on an amphora that was probably filled with olive oil and that was offered as a prize to the winner of a boxing match.  The two outer figures are probably judges who beat the athletes for infractions of the rules

Boxing was introduced as an Olympic event in 688 B.C.

Usually boxers wore strips of oxhide on their wrists and fingers—Click Here for an example—thus this may not actually be a boxing match, but may have been a representation of the “pancratium”—all out fighting!
