View looking west at the northern portion of the western casemate (double) wall of Masada. To the right of center, is the Synagogue. To the left of the synagogue, the double wall proceeds south (left). A number of doors that lead into its chambers are visible.
One of the chambers has been called "The Scroll Casemate" (= #1039). There a number of Zealot installations were found including scrolls, ostraca, silver and bronze coins, a prayer shawl, a wooden shield, sandals, keys, baskets and mats, and a few rolling stones.
Beyond the wall the barren hills of the Judean Wilderness are visible.
