View of one of the large cisterns located on the top of Masada. This one was originally used as a quarry for stones to build Herodian structures and then was turned into a cistern. It is located near the Northern Palace.
All totaled, it is estimated that the cisterns of Masada could hold over 1,000,000 gal. [40,000 cu. m.] of water.
