View of the entrance to Cave 1. In order to enter, one has to stoop down a bit to enter the small cave.
This is the first cave where scrolls were found—in winter or spring of 1947. Seven scrolls were found inside of jars, and were thus relatively well preserved. There were two copies of the book of Isaiah, the Community Rule, a Pesher on Habakkuk, the War Scroll, the Thanksgiving Hymns, and the Genesis Apocryphon (plus others).
