View looking south at the north side of the Herodium. The line (on the left side of the image) leading up the side of the Herodium, to where the notch is at the top of it, outlines the remnants of the 200 "marble" stairs that Josephus says formed the approach to the fortress. This was under excavation when this photo was taken,
To the right of the staircase is a building with three large glass windows. This is where the Royal Box above the small theater was located.
On the left of the staircase is where the Tomb of Herod was discovered.
