View looking west at the major detail of the "Altar of the Sacrifice of Isaac" (according to Samaritan beliefs).
Just slightly right of center is a carved trough in the bedrock of the Cenomanian limestone. This "trough" may be a trough though which blood flowed at the time of sacrifice.
The Samaritans believe that Abraham "bound" Isaac for sacrifice on Mt. Gerizim—not the Temple Mount in Jerusalem (Genesis 22 and 2 Chron 3:1).
