View looking west northwest at the area where the Hasmoneans built their palaces that were expanded by Herod the Great.
On the left side of the image is a low mound where a succession of palaces were built in the late second and early first centuries BC. In the center and right there are additions built by Herod the Great—called Herod's Second Palace.
