View looking at a reproduction of the monumental gate that was discovered at Jaffa that dates to the days of Ramses II (13th century BC). The "covered" structure on the right (south) was evidently part of the interior portion of the gate.
The inscription on the gate, in Egyptian Hieroglyphics, included many honorific titles of Ramses II. An even earlier gate was discovered underneath this one.
