View looking down (west) towards the ancient harbor—part of which is covered with green grass—from the podium on which the Temple to Augustus and Roma was located.
The minaret on the left of the center of the image is from an old mosque from the village of Bosnian refugees that the Ottomans settled here in the late nineteenth century. The village was destroyed in Israel’s war of Independence.
The modern staircase replicates the ancient one.
