View looking north at the “Stone of Anointing/Unction.” This stone commemorates the preparation of Jesus’ body for burial by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus (John 19:38–40).
This stone dates to the renovations of the church in A.D. 1810! Note the eight white lamps above the stone, and the four tall candles at its corners.
