View looking east at the major complex of tombs located in the Kidron Valley.
The tombs as they stretch from left to right (north to south) are: the Tomb of Absalom, the Tomb of the Sons of Hezir (barely visible), and the Tomb of Zechariah (pyramid-shaped roof). All of these tombs were in existence in the days of Jesus.
These tombs were very costly to construct as they are carved into the hard limestone that forms the base of the Mount of Olives.
In the upper portion of the image the white grave markers of a large Jewish cemetery located on the Mount of Olives are clearly visible.
In the lower portion of the image, below the tombs, is a road the leads down into the Kidron Valley. The olive trees whose tops are visible in the lower left portion of the image are located in the Kidron Valley. The Kidron actually flows from left to right (north to south).
