View looking west at the exterior of the Crusader building that replaced its Byzantine predecessor. The structure was taken over by the Muslim Saladin and has remained in Muslim hands since.
The opening in the far wall is the doorway that leads into the compound from the street. The minaret on the far side of the wall was first constructed in the seventeenth century.
