Fifth Station of the Cross. View looking at the entrance to the Roman Catholic chapel that commemorates the site where Simon of Cyrene was compelled to carry the cross of Jesus. This event is only mentioned in Mark's gospel (Mark 15:21).
Cyrene was a large city in North Africa—modern Libya. He was probably in Jerusalem for the Passover celebration.
Note, from left to right, the street sign “Via Dolorosa,” the “V” symbol, and the door that leads into the chapel.
