A general view of Channel II.
The channel is about 1,000 ft. long [300 m.], leading from the Gihon Spring to a point near the Pool of Siloam. Along the way it fed the recently rediscovered pool and especially the gardens in the Kidron Valley—via small outlets.
In some places it is 15 ft. [4.5 m.] deep and varies from 1.5 to 3.0 ft. [0.5 to 1.0 m.] in width. It is mainly a “channel” rather than a “tunnel”—for it was carved into the rock from above, rather than through the rock. Its open top was filled with huge boulders.
