View looking south-southwest at the northern entrance to the basalt synagogue of Qatzrin. The entrance is 11 ft. [3.4 m.] high.
Note the wreath on the lintel in the center with a small pomegranate on its left and a small amphora (jug) on its right.
The synagogue was in use from about AD 350 to 749 - the latter date being marked by a devastating earthquake in the area that destroyed many towns.
