View looking southwest (in the direction of the spring) down the 260 ft. [80 m.] long horizontal tunnel that led from the vertical shaft to the spring ¸— that was located just outside the walls of the city of Megiddo. The white shirt of a student is visible in the darkness of the tunnel.
By examining the chisel marks on the walls it is evident that workmen began at both ends of the tunnel and met near the middle. Note that this tunnel is almost perfectly straight — compare the “S–shaped” tunnel dug by Hezekiah in Jerusalem (about 50 year years AFTER this tunnel was dug!).
