Note the following features labeled on this model

1a – Inner Solomonic Gate that has three chambers on each side.

1b – Outer Solomonic Gate — note how attackers would have had to pass through this area prior to assaulting the inner (main) gate.

2a – Northern storerooms (often called stables) — date?  Solomonic or Ahab.

2b – Eastern storerooms (often called stables) — date?  Solomonic or Ahab.  Note how these were built over the older Canaanite Temple complex — indicating a break in the continuity of the worshiping community.

2c – Southern storerooms (often called stables) — date?  Solomonic or Ahab.  Note the courtyard in front of it.  Click here to view a “manger” from this area.

3 – Circular silo from the days of Jeroboam II (793–753 B.C.).

4 – Southern palace plus courtyard — of the bit–hilanni style.  Probably Solomonic.

5 – Opening of the shaft that leads down into the Israelite water system.

6 – Old Canaanite (Early Bronze Age) worship center complex.

7 – Israelite staircase leading down to a water collection area.

8 – Area of Bronze age gates — especially a gate from the Middle and Late Bronze Ages.

9 – Arrow pointing to the area of the major spring of Megiddo, that is actually located slightly outside of the tell.  The Israelite water system connected to it so that the inhabitants of Megiddo would have access to water during times of siege.

10 – “Salient Recessed” wall.  Usually thought to be attached to the Solomonic Gate (as on the model).  But, this point is hotly contested within the archaeological community.

11 – Area of Yadin’s excavation where he claims to have found an Israelite palace and a “casemate wall.”
