Interior of the fourth (some say fifth/sixth) century synagogue. Looking north at the back of the synagogue. The people are sitting on the side bench at the back of the west aisle. The synagogue was constructed out of white limestone as were its floors.
The Franciscan excavators believe that the black foundation walls that they found under this synagogue are those of the synagogue that Jesus preached in.
