View of the facade of one of the tombs of the Necropolis of Ostia. This structure is decorated with brick pilasters. The "doorways" are filled with brick laid in the reticulate pattern. The lunettes are inlaid with yellow and red brick, alternating with pumice stone. Inside, niches would have held funerary urns.
This structure is situated along the Decumanus Maximus (Via Ostiense) on the east side of Ostia near the Porta Romana (eastern gate). This section of the Decumanus was lined with tombs of elite persons (= necropolis).
