View of the back wall the dining room (= triclinium) of The House of the Tragic Poet.
The lower portion of the wall, the dado, is in imitation marble in black and deep red. In the central portion, yellows predominate. The central image is a fresco of Theseus, who had defeated the Minotar on Crete, abandoning Ariadne, who had helped him (see detail). On each side of the central panel are vertical "windows" looking out at structures.
