A view looking east at the area where the Middle Bronze Age "West Gate" was located. The passageway in the center of the image was the passageway into and out of the "Inner Town." Towers on both sides flanked it. In the center, is a water channel that dates to a later period.
Part of the "rampart" that surrounds the "Inner Town" is visible in the upper right portion of the image.
This gate was originally constructed as part of the massive ramparts that surround the "Inner Town" rise over 65 feet above ground level. The rampart encloses an area of 86 acres. At the end of the MB Period, ca. 1500 BC, the gate was blocked with a massive wall. Later an Iron Age drain was constructed through the area and hydraulic works from the Roman Period were found here as well.
