View looking north. The arch and the tall square tower (minaret) date to the eighth century A.D. They are remnants of a mosque and university built by the Umayyad Caliph Merman II (A.D. 744–750) who resided in Haran for a period of time.
Note the general terrain of the area — familiar to Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, etc.
