View looking west northwest at the towering minaret and the exterior of the well–preserved eastern wall of the Ulu Cami ("Grand Mosque") at Haran.
The mosque was built by the Umayyad Caliph Mervan II between 744-750. It measured 340 x 350 ft. (104 x 107 m.) and the well–preserved minaret is 108 ft. (33.3 m.) tall!
