View looking north at the excavations (October 2023) near the "Golden Mile" in the area of the Hagia Sophia and Hippodrome in the area of Sultanahmet in Istanbul.
On the right (east) side of the image, a minaret and dome of the Hagia Sophia are visible. On the right, is the "Golden Mile" and a water tower built out of brick.
According to the archaeologist, the structures in the excavation in the foreground—including buildings and waterworks—date to the Late Roman/Early Byzantine Periods.
