View of the hot room (caldarium) in the "Varius Bath."  The floor rested on the square brick columns and hot air circulated among them—heating the floor.

The Varius Bath was located at the west end of the Curetes Street, on the north side of the street.  It was established in the first half of the second century A.D.  Later they were refurbished by a Christian woman named Scholasticia.  Sometimes they are called the Bath of Scholasticia.
